Heat prostration is a term used to describe when someone’s body temperature drops below 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit and may result in heatstroke. Heat cramps are another term that describes muscle spasms caused by the body’s inability to cool itself in the summer due to excessive heat. Some people develop heat prostration by staying in a sauna for long periods of time, which can eventually lead to heat stroke. Others are particularly susceptible to developing heat prostration because their bodies cannot metabolize the byproducts of sweating as effectively, or their bodies may be naturally colder than most others.
While not as severe as heat stroke, these cramps may be painful and cause enough discomfort to make people stop or discontinue their exercise.Cool down yourself: When you get too hot, it is important that you find a way to cool down by going into an air-conditioned building or pulling over your car and turning off the AC. It is also helpful to take a cold shower or drink plenty of water before heading out for an outdoor workout.
